leadership programme
A Message from
Sajeeda Rose, Chief Executive
How much more could we achieve for the people of Nottingham if we worked as one fully aligned, focused leadership team with a shared purpose?
This development programme is about answering that question. It is about how we lead at NCC– uniting us, focusing us, and ensuring we deliver better outcomes for the people of our city.
As Directors, you have significant reach and influence across our workforce. You play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our council. This programme gives you a seat at the table to shape how we lead together – not simply responding to the need to improve and change, but defining this and setting the direction for our organisation.
We are co-creating this programme together. It is not about theory that gets lost in the day-to-day. It is applied, practical, and focused. Over 60 days we will agree a clear, aligned action plan and make measurable progress against our corporate priorities.
The programme will provide absolute clarity on our shared ambitions and what is expected of us as leaders, and how we can deliver together as one team. Every action will directly connect to what matters most – both for our organisation and for the people of Nottingham.
When I picture us at our best, I see a leadership team that is forward-thinking, clear on priorities, supportive of one another, and collaborating with shared purpose.
A moment that comes to mind is the power outage earlier this year. It could have caused major disruption, but colleagues from every department pulled together — sharing information, finding solutions, and stepping in wherever needed. Every service adapted quickly to keep things running, and your leadership ensured clear direction for your teams. As a result, residents saw minimal disruption. We may not welcome emergencies, but the collaboration, adaptability, and problem-solving shown then is exactly the spirit we want in everything we do together.
When we lead like this, Nottingham benefits – with a more engaged workforce, stronger trust from residents and partners, and faster progress on the improvements that matter most.
We have really committed colleagues – knowledgeable, experienced, and deeply connected across our workforce. When we work together as one team, there is no limit to what we can achieve. I hope you will embrace this programme and show what is possible when we truly lead as one team.

Learning and Applying
Our 60-day leadership programme is built on the belief that everyone can think in a bigger, better, and bolder way. The focus is not on adding more to your workload, but on sharpening the way you and your colleagues approach challenges and opportunities.
At its core, the programme equips leaders with a simple but powerful principle: when you improve the quality of your thinking, and the questions you ask, you achieve better results. Over 60 days, this means developing practical tools you can use every day, strengthening collaboration across services, and building clarity and confidence in decision-making.
The programme will be developed with you, fostering shared responsibility among leaders and enabling you to work with clarity and consistency to achieve meaningful outcomes.
